NBO Training

The UW Parent-Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Program was selected by the Brazelton Institute at Boston Children’s Hospital and affiliated with Harvard Medical School in 2018 as one of only two external training sites nationally for the Newborn Behavioral Observations (NBO) System.

The NBO is an evidence-based, infant-focused and family centered relational tool that is designed to enhance attunement and strengthen the relationships between infants and parents beginning in the newborn period through the first three months of life. It involves coming alongside parents of newborns and looking together at the infant’s capacities, communication and unique personhood. Furthermore, the NBO promotes a positive relationship between practitioners and families.
